It can be hard for young composers to get accomplished orchestras to play their music. However, this experience is essential to the development of a unique and successful musical voice.
In order to foster emerging composers and Australian classical music, Willoughby Symphony has partnered with 2MBS-FM to create an annual Young Composer Award open to all Australian residents under 30 years of age.
The winner receives a $5,000 cash prize, a world premiere performance with the Willoughby Symphony Orchestra, and recording and subsequent broadcast of their work nationwide on 2MBS FM -102.5.
Thanks to the support of the Australasian Performing Rights Association (APRA), a $500 encouragement award is also given.
The Young Composer Award 2011 closes on Wednesday, 1 June 2011. 2011 WSOC-2MBS FM Young Composer Award Application Form - 32 KB.
