And On Earth, Peace

27 June 2016

2pm, Sunday 24 July I Our Lady of Dolours, Archer Street, Chatswood

Under the baton of Conductor and Musical Director, Peter Ellis, the Willoughby Symphony Choir presents a concert of translucent beauty in And On Earth, Peace.

Opening with the wonderfully serene Requiem by Faure, the Choir will leave audiences spellbound as they perform this unique composition of pure sincerity and reflection.

The concert will also feature Norwegian composer Ola Gjeilo’s recent masterpiece Sunrise Mass, a warm and understated journey from dark and dreamlike floating in the heavens, to warm and grounded in a place of absolute peace, tranquillity and relief, at one with humanity and the Earth.

The Willoughby Symphony Choir is widely recognised as the region's finest community choir, with a repertoire comprising of mainly classical works including oratorios, masses, requiems, operatic and symphonic works. As well as large-scale choral works, the Choir also performs a cappella and popular music.

Peter Ellis studied violin, organ and conducting at the University of Birmingham, and was Music Director of the Birmingham University Chamber Choir and a member of the City of Birmingham Symphony Chorus. Peter qualified in Music Education from the University of London Institute of Education in 2000.

After moving to Australia in 2002, Peter has held a number of positions including Music and Artistic Director of the Newcastle University Choir and Eastern Sydney Chamber Orchestra, and Music Director for Tenor Australis. Peter has made regular guest conducting appearances with Coro Innominata, Macquarie University Singers and St. Andrew’s Cathedral, Sydney and in August 2015 became Music Director of Willoughby Symphony Choir.
