Chatswood to Light Up for Vivid Sydney 2016
17 March 2016
Vivid Sydney, the world’s largest festival of light, music and ideas, will return to Chatswood in 2016 for a second year. During Vivid Sydney, the bustling Chatswood CBD will be transformed into ‘WildLight - The Bio-Kinetic City’, an amazing collection of engaging installations and activities inspired by the fascinating creatures of Gondwana.
“We are incredibly excited to bring Vivid Sydney back to Chatswood again this year,” said Willoughby Mayor Gail Giles-Gidney. “It is such a wonderful event to offer locally to our community, that has remarkable cultural and economic development opportunities for the area,” she said.
“Last year’s event was a huge success, being the first time Vivid Sydney was held in a suburban precinct outside the Sydney CBD, and it really helped cement Chatswood’s position as a vital part of the greater Sydney cultural landscape.
“This year’s light design for Chatswood is visually spectacular. Like last year, the precinct is designed as a continuous walk to take you on a sensory journey from the Chatswood Interchange, through Chatswood Mall and past Westfield Chatswood, on to The Concourse.
“And an exciting new addition this year is the day-time activations based out of Chatswood Chase Sydney, especially created to engage young children and families,” Mayor Gail said.
Visitors to Chatswood will take a technology-led journey into the past – stepping off the train at Chatswood Interchange into a world of projection, lighting effects and fantastic avian creatures. Continuing on to Westfield Chatswood, visitors will be bedazzled by the vibrant digital animations of Neon Dino Nights. Prehistoric creatures in futuristic 3D animations will play across the façade of The Concourse and members of the public can become part of the experience by taking control of interactive mechanical dinosaur frames. Discover the Primordial Pond and see what’s lurking beneath. Vivid Sydney’s youngest patrons can create their own unique deep-sea adventure, playing with luminescent sea creatures in the Luminarium at Chatswood Chase Sydney by day.
Visitors are encouraged to stay a while to enjoy great shopping, dining and market stalls on offer as they wander through the Chatswood CBD, which is increasingly becoming known as a hotspot for Asian dining experiences.
Vivid Sydney in Chatswood is run by Willoughby City Council and supported by Precinct Contributors Chatswood Chase Sydney, Chatswood Interchange and Westfield Chatswood. The Chatswood precinct is created by The Electric Canvas and Erth.
Vivid Sydney at Chatswood is on every evening from 5.30pm-10.30pm, 27 May to 13 June. The Luminarium will operate daily from 10am-12pm and 1pm-3pm. For more information visit www.vividsydney.com.
