Have Your Say: Haven Amphitheatre Stage

Willoughby Council is seeking community feedback on proposed plans for a new stage at the Haven Amphitheatre in Castlecrag, with a preferred design now on public exhibition.

This follows Council working with local Castlecrag community groups to develop the proposed plans - that meet community needs, while also addressing engineering, environmental and historic factors. Council endorsed the public exhibition of the preferred Option 1A at its meeting on 14 December 2015.

Community feedback will be considered and recommendations presented to Council in March 2016 for further discussion. Progress on the project is also dependant on Council’s 2016/17 budget cycle and other funding options, including grants.

Community feedback will be open for a two month period until Friday 26 February, 2016

BACKGROUND:

The Haven Amphitheatre, Castlecrag is a unique performance facility bringing the community together to enjoy cultural events in a natural bushland setting. The site’s history extends back to the 1920s when it was first designed by Walter and Marion Griffin and used as a community theatre space, sans stage. The current stage at the Haven was built by the community in 1975, but is at the end of its building life and has been fenced off from active use since late 2014.
