Vivid Sydney at Chatswood - Precinct Sneak Peak!

27 April 2016

The countdown is on to Vivid Sydney, the world’s largest festival of light, music and ideas. Vivid Sydney will return to Chatswood for a second time from 27 May to 13 June, with the bustling CBD transforming into ‘WildLight – The Bio-Kinetic City’, an amazing collection of engaging installations and activities inspired by the fascinating creatures of Gondwana.

Willoughby Council can now reveal further details about individual artworks, installations and precincts that will make up Chatswood’s continuous light walk experience through the CBD. This special sneak peak focuses on the journey from Chatswood Interchange, through Chatswood Mall and onto Westfield Chatswood and the Anderson Street overpass.

Bridge of Illusions
Chatswood Interchange
Artists: The Electric Canvas (Australia)

Visitors to Chatswood will take a technology-led journey into the past – stepping off the train at Chatswood Interchange into a world of projection, lighting effects and fantastic avian creatures. Located on the podium level of Chatswood Interchange, the Bridge of Illusions, will captivate passers-by with “trompe l’oeil” projections and other optical trickery.

From certain points of view, watch the bridge seemingly break away from beneath your feet or have sinkholes suddenly open up in it. Real-time projections of the activity below will create the illusion that the bridge has magically disappeared. Keep an eye out for prehistoric flying creatures that appear to swoop beneath the bridge too.

Stomping Ground
Chatswood Mall, Victoria Avenue
Artists: The Electric Canvas (Australia)

This fun and engaging projection in the middle of Chatswood Mall will allow Vivid-goers of all ages to follow playful animations on the ground below their feet. The earth will tremble as giant dinosaur footprints are etched into the ground and reptilian creatures dart amongst fern trees growing up from the floor. But watch out – they might leap out to surprise you!

Neon Dino Nights
Westfield Chatswood, Anderson Street Overpass
Artists: The Electric Canvas (Australia)

Continuing on to Westfield Chatswood, visitors will be bedazzled by the vibrant digital animations of Neon Dino Nights. Neon Dino Nights is a tongue-in-cheek collection of bright and colourful animated projections created in the retro style of Hong Kong and Tokyo’s neon skylines, illuminating the Anderson Street overpass adjacent Westfield’s Asian street food mecca, Hawker Lane.

The flickering and blinking neon lights will feature a whimsical mix of prehistoric creatures and delicious dino-inspired delicacies. Some lucky visitors to Anderson Street will also have the chance to see their name ‘up in lights’ within the projections using a fun public participation component via social media.
