15 February 2017
Residents aged 55 and over are invited to take part in Willoughby’s annual Seniors Festival. Sponsored by Willoughby City Council and supported by local community organisations and businesses, the 2017 programme features more than 30 free or specially discounted events and activities for seniors this March. The highlight of the programme is the annual Seniors Celebrations Variety Concert on Tuesday 14 March in the fully accessible Civic Pavilion on The Concourse, Chatswood. The concert will include live music and entertainment, followed by a delicious afternoon tea. Another highlight is the Time to Grow – Grow Young event on Thursday 9 March at the Dougherty Community Centre. Featuring Indira Naidoo as a special guest speaker, the event will include a range of gardening workshops, cooking and pickling demonstrations and displays. Other events include a Captain Cook Harbour Cruise, free exercise sessions at Willoughby Leisure Centre, art exhibitions, performances, talks and information sessions, open days and more. “The Willoughby Seniors Festival programme demonstrates our diverse community and the active involvement of the many wonderful community groups and organisations we have in Willoughby,” said Willoughby Mayor, Gail Giles-Gidney. “The Festival could not happen without the help and support of all those involved – to our community, residents, community groups, government services – thank you for your contribution and participation,” she said. Pick up a copy of the 2017 Willoughby Seniors Festival from Council’s Libraries, Services Centre or other locations across the City.
