Willoughby Choir performs Elijah
21 April 2016
2pm, Sunday 22 May I The Concourse Concert Hall, Chatswood
In their very own special concert, the Willoughby Symphony Choir will perform Mendelssohn’s glorious Elijah at the world class Concert Hall on The Concourse this May.
Considered to be Mendelssohn’s greatest work, Elijah is a thrilling masterpiece featuring solos of exquisite beauty and some of the most awe-inspiring choruses ever written. Inspired by the Old Testament story of the prophet Elijah, the work is a vivid depiction of his dramatic life, expressed through thrilling musical storytelling, brilliant arias, and grand and vibrant choruses.
Under the direction of conductor, Peter Ellis, Elijah will feature the full Willoughby Symphony Choir and Orchestra, with brilliant Australian soloists Penelope Mills, Nicole Smeulders, David Hamilton and Alexander Knight as Elijah.
Alexander Knight is one of the most in-demand young baritones today. A graduate of the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, Alexander has performed with the Australian Brandenburg Orchestra, Sydney Philharmonia Choirs and the Adelaide Chamber Singers and in August he will begin a 12 month Principal Artist contract at the Hessisches Staatstheater Wiesbaden in Germany.
