Haven Amphitheatre

Haven Amphitheatre

Location:  Castlehaven Reserve, The Barricade, Castlecrag

The Haven Amphitheatre was constructed in the 1930s by Marion Mahony Griffin and Walter Burley Griffin for outdoor performances.  The audience sat on tiered sandstone seating in the bushland creek gully and watched performances enacted on a natural 'stage' of the rock studded slope.

The timber stage across the creek was built by the local community in 1976.  Community performances, such as Christmas Carols, are organised by the Haven Amphitheatre Committee.

The timber stage has now been removed in preparation for a new stage to be built as soon as a joint community and Council funding is secured.
