English Learning Program

English class

English classes are available at beginners, pre-intermediate, intermediate and advanced levels. All classes are run by dedicated trained volunteers and held at MOSAIC Centre, 12 Brown Street, Chatswood.
Joining a class is an excellent way to make new friends and gain confidence in English communication. Learning English is a key to successful settlement in Australia. Classes cost $15 per term or $11 for seniors.

English Discussion Classes
This is a 1.5 hour session that runs once a week. It focuses on discussion topics of mutual interest, and is helped by trained volunteers.
English Conversation for Japanese Friendship Group
This is an intermediate level English conversation group that discusses current events and issues.

These groups all meet at MOSAIC Centre, 12 Brown Street, Chatswood, unless otherwise stated.
MOSAIC groups play an important role building social networks between people from the same cultural backgrounds, to reduce social isolation and language or cultural barriers during their arrival and settlement in Australia. The groups further promote cultural diversity and interaction between the different cultures through their active involvement and participation in Council’s multicultural events.
These groups plan activities for physical, social and psychological wellbeing with support and guidance from the MOSAIC Centre Coordinator. They also actively participate in the decision making process and contribute to building a harmonious multicultural community in the City of Willoughby.

MOSAIC Chinese Seniors Group - Every Thursday, 9.30am - 1pm. Activities include Tai Chi, karaoke, games, cooking and information talks.
MOSAIC Chinese Social Group - Every Tuesday, 2.00pm - 4.30pm. Activities include Tai Chi, line dance, karaoke, cooking and information talks.
MOSAIC Italian Social Group - Every Tuesday, 10.30am - 1.00pm at Beauchamp Park Hall, Nicholson Street, Chatswood. Activities include Tai Chi, dance, cooking and information talks.
MOSAIC Japanese Social Group - 2nd and 4th Wednesday of each month, 11.30am-1pm, and 10am-2.30pm on 21 March, 16 May, 18 July, 19 September and 21 November. Activities include meditation, cooking and information talks.
MOSAIC Korean Social Group - 1st, 2nd and 4th Wednesday of each month, 9.30am - 2.30pm. Activities include yoga, line dance, choir, cooking and information talks.
MOSAIC Malaysian Social Group - 2nd and 4th Tuesday of each month, 1pm - 2.30pm. Activities include cooking, dance, info talks and friendship.
MOSAIC Men - 1st Monday of each month, 10am-12.30pm - Cooking at MOSAIC, 2nd Thursday of each month, 10am - 12pm - Table Tennis at Chatswood Youth Centre (Cnr Albert Ave & Victor St), 3rd Thursday of each month, 10am-2pm - Bushwalking and lunch.
MOSAIC Sangam-Indian Social Group - 2nd and 4th Monday of each month, 10.00am - 12.30pm. Activities include games, cooking, information talks and friendship building activities.
MOSAIC Thai Women’s Wellbeing and Support Group - 2nd and 4th Friday of each month, 1pm - 3pm. Activities include cooking, dance, info talks and friendship.

MOSAIC Centre offers opportunities for you to learn and polish a language other than English such as Mandarin, Korean, Japanese, Spanish and French. These classes run by native speakers are held at MOSAIC Centre, 12 Brown Street, Chatswood. Classes cost $15 per term, or $11 for seniors.

Tax Help Program - Approved and trained volunteers from the Australian Taxation Office help people from low-income groups fill out simple tax returns between July and October. Bookings are essential.
Lower North Shore Multicultural Aged Day Care Program - Wednesday, 10.00am - 3.00pm at the Dougherty Community Centre, 7 Victor St, Chatswood. Join the HACC funded activity program on Wednesdays to meet new friends and enjoy stimulating activities, gentle exercise and a monthly excursion. Morning tea and hot lunch provided.
