Respectful relationships mural

Consent is My Love Language
Created by young people from Chatswood High School in collaboration with artist Debbie Grahls
Chatswood Youth Centre, April 2025
This mural was initiated by Willoughby City Council Youth Services as part of the Youth Action Plan, developed through consultation with young people across our community. Respectful relationships were identified as one of four key focus areas—highlighting the need for spaces that support connection, safety, and education.
Developed through workshops inspired by the Love Bites Respectful Relationships program and brought to life with local artist Debbies Grahl, this project celebrates creativity, community, and the power of early education in building respectful relationships.
This isn’t just a mural—it’s an invitation to start a conversation.
✨ What is a respectful relationship? What does it look like? What does it feel like?
✨ How do we know when we might need support?
✨ How can we be better role models for one another?
This project recognises the importance of early intervention through education, and invites people of all ages to learn, reflect, and take part in building a kinder, safer, more respectful community.
It also aligns with the goals of the National Plan to End Violence Against Women and Children 2022–2032, which aims to end gender-based violence in one generation. This mural is a small but meaningful part of that vision—led by young people, for all of us.
