Willoughby Mayor, Deputy Mayor and Councillors commence new term

Last night, the Mayor of the City of Willoughby and 12 incoming councillors took the Oath of Office at an official ceremony, followed by the first Council meeting of the new term. Eight are newly-elected first-term Councillors, including Mayor Tanya Taylor, popularly elected into office at the election on 4 December 2021.

The ceremony and reception was held at The Concourse, Chatswood where each member of Council took the Oath in front of family members. Following the ceremony, the new Council sat for their first Council meeting of the new term. 

Cr Brendon Zhu was elected Willoughby City Council Deputy Mayor at last night’s Council meeting. Cr Zhu has been a Willoughby City councillor since 2017 and represents the West Ward. 

Mayor Taylor expressed her warm congratulations to Cr Zhu and her fellow councillors, “I am delighted to share this momentous occasion with my fellow councillors and focus on serving the community’s needs at our first meeting.”

“The new council is eager to engage with the community and bring about positive strategic outcomes that support the community’s vision,” Mayor Taylor added.

Over the coming weeks, the newly-elected councillors will participate in induction sessions and workshops to understand our community’s priorities.
