Makizushi (maki) is traditionally made by wrapping nori seaweed around rice and fillings.
Uramaki sushi is a modern variation with rice on the outside and nori on the inside. It was developed in Little Tokyo, Los Angeles in the late 1960's by sushi chef Machita Ichiro at the restaurant Tokyo Kaikan.
