About the workshop

In the Chasing Magic workshop, children will explore the power of magical thinking and create their own personal tokens of hope and good luck. Using craft materials and guided by themes from the exhibition, kids will design and make a special charm to take home, inspired by symbols of comfort, magic, and beauty. A fun and meaningful way to spark creativity and imagination!

Artist bio

Minka Gillian’s an Australian/Frisian artist, born in Canberra, and raised in Tasmania. Gillian studied her BFA in Sculpture at UTAS where she received First Class Honours. She has been a practising artist for over 20 years and has exhibited widely throughout Australia in group shows and 12 solo exhibitions. Her work is in the Artbank collection and in the Qt Hotel in Auckland. She received a Highly Commended in the Gosford Art Prize, Georges River Sculpture prize and Commended in the Black town art prize. Her practise covers sculpture, installation, painting, photography, and public art. Primarily working with recycled materials, Gillian’s work is characterised by biomorphic installations using traditional domestic techniques, such as weaving, netting and crochet. She is interested in the hand made, nature, the body and transforming the mundane into something intriguing and beautiful.

She currently lives and works in the Central Coast, NSW
