2024 Tax Help program

Next date: Monday, 12 August 2024 | 09:00 AM to 01:00 PM

Tax Help volunteers are ready to help you

Need assistance completing your tax return? The Australian Taxation Office (ATO) can help.

What is the Tax Help program?

The ATO’s community-based Tax Help program is a free and confidential service open to people earning about $60,000 or less each year.

From mid-July to October, ATO trained volunteers can help you lodge your return, claim a refund of franking credits, submit a non-lodgement advice or lodge an amendment online using myTax.

A Tax Help volunteer is available in person at our Dougherty Community Centre, 7 Victor Street, Chatswood 2067 on Mondays 9am-1pm, from 22 July to 28 October 2024 – by appointment only.

If you are not eligible for Tax Help, you may be able to access free advice and support through the National Tax Clinic program, a government-funded initiative to help those who may not be able to afford professional advice and representation with their tax affairs.

For more information about National Tax Clinic program, visit the ATO website.

What can volunteers help you with?

If you earn $60,000 or less and have simple tax affairs, an ATO accredited volunteer can help you:

  • create a myGov account
  • lodge your tax return online
  • lodge an amendment to your tax return
  • claim a refund of franking credits
  • tell the ATO if you don't need to lodge a tax return.

To check if you are eligible, visit the ATO website or call 13 28 61.

If eligible, phone our Dougherty Community Centre to make an appointment on 9777 7800.

Remember to have this information or documents with you for your appointment:
