An exhibition of video and sound installation, durational performance and drawing by Cindy Yuen-Zhe Chen.
Conversations with the Wind presents a series of works which explore listening to place as a methodology of drawing. Through video and sound installation, durational performance and drawings, this exhibition aims to develop in viewers a deeper consideration of the auditory dimension of awareness.
These works contribute to Chen’s doctoral thesis investigation into how listening in drawing practice can challenge existing notions of place and extend landscape art practices. This study grew from her fascination with the mutability of places and the exploration of sound as an analogy of change. Made in response to the landscape of Sugarloaf Bay, these works constitute a sustained dialogue with a place and its atmospheric contingencies.
