Life Expressions in Papercuts

Exhibition Dates: 10 - 20 May 2016

An exhibition of hand cut paper by Miguel Castro.

Using traditional Philippine paper-cutting techniques, Castro express various themes and concept in his artworks, transforming this traditional technique into a contemporary art form.

Social commentary is the motivation of Castro’s artworks, focusing on the message rather than the technique of paper-cutting.

Due to the excellent craftsmanship of the artwork, most viewers mistake Castro’s artwork as prints or ink painting, since intricacy and the laboriously ‘carved’ shapes on paper seem to be produced by pen or ink. Only on close inspection will an observer get the pleasure of discovering the one-piece, hand-cut, hand-designed paper.
