Apply for a skip bin permit

Online

When would you need this?

You will need a skip bin road permit when there is a need to place a skip bin or waste container (up to a maximum size of 6 cubic metres) on a public road or footpath.

What you need to know:

  • Works can only commence following payment of the fees and receipt of the approval letter from Council.
  • Permit approval is subject to the Council's engineer's satisfaction with the proposed works.
  • The minimum processing time for the application is 10 business days, however, in some circumstances the assessment and determination process may require longer time frames.
  • Applications lodged within 24 hours (1 business day) before the commencement of the works may be refused.
  • Skip bin must not exceed 6 cubic metres and must be coloured yellow, orange or white for pedestrian visibility.
  • Pedestrians must have free access to the remaining area of the footpath. A minimum of 1.5 metres clearance shall be maintained at all times to allow clear and safe pedestrian access to pass the skip bin.
  • Skip bin must not cover or prevent access to public or private utilities and drainage pits, or obstruct the view of traffic signs and controls.
  • Skip bin may only be placed on the road under extreme circumstances and in daylight only.

Step 1.Fees and charges

  • An application fee will be charged on lodgement. Please note that a rental fee will be issued to you after Council’s assessment.
  • Additional fees will apply to applications lodged 72 hours (3 business days) before the commencement of the works.
  • Any change of date requests will incur an additional fee.
  • Rental fees cover a maximum placement period of 3 days (weekends and public holidays counted as 1 day).
  • If the works affect metered pay parking, the standard parking rate will be applied to the application.
  • Check Council's adopted fees and charges.
