When would you need this?

You will need a footpath permit to occupy public space or footpath on a temporary basis (up to a maximum of 2 weeks).

What you need to know:

  • Works can only commence following payment of the fees and receipt of the approval letter from Council.  
  • Permit approval is subject to the Council's engineer's satisfaction with the proposed works.
  • The minimum processing time for the application is 10 business days, however, in some circumstances, the assessment and determination process may require longer time frames.
  •  Applications lodged within 24 hours (1 business day) before the commencement of the works may be refused.
  • Pedestrians must have free access to the remaining area of the footpath. A minimum of 1.5 metres clearance shall be maintained at all times to allow clear and safe pedestrian access to pass the occupied area.
  • The occupied area must not cover or prevent access to public or private utilities and drainage pits, or obstruct the view of traffic signs and controls.  

Step 1.Fees and charges

  • An application fee will be charged on lodgement. Please note that a rental fee will be issued to you after Council’s assessment.
  • Additional fees will apply to applications lodged 72 hours (3 business days) before the commencement of the works.
  • Any change of date requests will incur an additional fee.
  • Rental fees based on the number of days and occupied area
  • If the works affect metered pay parking, the standard parking rate will be applied to the application.
  • Check Council's adopted fees and charges.

Step 2.What you will need to provide

  • Pedestrian management plan (mandatory).
  • Locality photo or Google Maps screen grab of occupied area (mandatory).
  • Site sketch with width and length of the occupied area (mandatory).
