The reserve has a history of foreshore recreational use which continues today, with fishing and as a local small boat launch.

This foreshore reserve provides valuable habitat for terrestrial and marine wildlife living in and travelling along the Castlecrag peninsula, including small and large birds, small lizards, snakes, invertebrates and fish.
