E-waste
Old electronics, or e-waste, contain valuable materials like metals that we can reuse. Recycling them is important because throwing them in the bin (landfill) can be dangerous. The harmful chemicals in e-waste can leak into the ground and water, making them bad for our health and the environment.
Willoughby residents can use these services to dispose of e-waste free of charge:
E-waste is NOT allowed in your weekly rubbish collection or in your kerbside Clean Up services.
Batteries (general household):
Lithium-ion batteries cannot be placed into home general waste or recycling bins. They can cause fires during waste collection, transportation, handling and processing.
- Small, undamaged household batteries (not swollen, punctured, or leaking, etc.) can be safely disposed of at a B-cycle battery recycling drop off point. It is recommended that battery terminals are taped over with clear adhesive tape before placing the battery carefully (without dropping it) into a battery recycling collection bin.
- Household batteries and car batteries can also be taken to the Northern Sydney Community Recycling Centre or a Household Chemical CleanOut event.
Mobile phones:
If your mobile is still working, consider extending its life by either selling it or passing it on to friends and family.
Note: Before you recycle, sell or give away your mobile phone, you should remove your personal information (tips to erase your data).
