Edward Street & Penshurst Street South streetscape improvement project

This street corridor improvement project will help achieve Council’s Community Strategic Plan, Our Future Willoughby 2032's vision to create a city that is green, connected, liveable and resilient.

It will encompass street greening, traffic calming improvements to make the corridor safer, cooler, and more inviting for pedestrians and cyclists. Up to now, we have conducted two workshops to hear ideas from the community and was supported by more than two thirds of respondents for this project.

In the beginning of 2024, Council engaged a design consultant to develop draft design options for the community. These concepts are now on the Have Your Say page for the community to provide feedback.

December 2024	Community consultation summary report to be finalised early 2025. Final concept design being prepared for traffic committee consideration in February. Following traffic committee approval detailed construction documentation will be finalised for tender in mid-2025.
October 2024	Community and stakeholder consultation complete. Final concept plan currently being prepared.
July 2024	Proposed designs for the Edward Street and Penshurst Street streetscape improvement project can now be viewed for community feedback on the Have Your Say page.
June 2024	Council’s consulting team have completed design proposals and are in preparations for the community consultation for July.
May 2024	Streetscape improvement design options being finalised. Council’s project and consulting team are finalising two streetscape improvement design options for consideration by the community. Details about the upcoming community consultation process will be publicised via Council’s Have Your Say platform. Click on the ‘register for updates’ (above) to receive details about opportunities to have a look the draft concept designs and provide your feedback.
January to April 2024	Council has commenced working with external consultant's on the Edward Project. The design process is expected to run for the next 4 months before a planned workshop with the community. Council will be promoting the workshop event in advance to allow the community to register and participate. Note: Council's Willoughby South Parking Scheme 'Have your Say' is a separate program to this current project.
December 2023	Finalising design consultancy engagement.
November 2023	Engagement of design consultancy in process. Expected design development to commence in December 2023.
October 2023	Review of design consultancy submissions are underway by Council.
September 2023	Design consultant procurement underway. Council are now in the process of engaging a design consultant to develop draft design options for the community. It is envisaged that a follow-up community engagement process will be undertaken by Council early 2024 to seek community input on the design options developed.
August 2023	Investigation of underground services along corridor. Decals installed showing route of ‘active pathway’ along corridor to Willoughby Public School.
